Commendation or Karma System

So we have an Annual award to be held every year. But how about having Medals to commend or Karma starts to be awarded.

i once suggested karma but the staff members and a lot of wiser people than me quickly found good arguements why there isn't a karma system.  8)

Yeah karma systems tend not to be a good thing on gaming sites in my experience. It's a cool thing but... things can go sour very easily. Just a random two cents via a few bad experiences.

Just sharing that I had an internet company and I advertised via a few major forums. The karma system was abused by the competitors. I get red nuggets (bad karma) and it made me look bad despite my continual positive reviews. Karma can be given for any reason. It ends up being irrelevant and useless. I'd rather them insert a sort of "itrader" "feedback" system for members to post positive runs ins... but even then it's not that great of an idea lol

My other gaming community forum uses both a reputation feature and a "Thank" feature.

I like both features, especially giving reputation, but I agree that things can easily get out of hand. That is why the founder disabled the ability to give negative reputation. :P

A thank you feature would do. Adamcs and Andy know how a commendation system works. So it would be good to implement one.

Awards are still able to be given out. Before the server change we had several people with awards. Everyone lost them when we moved servers but it is a goal of mine to re-instate them and get the awards back up and running again. More info will come soon. Just want to finalise the annual awards before tweaking the others.
