Casteyn, I'd love to read what you wrote but this thread for me is doing that thing where you can't see the latest page that's been created.  And even if I was complaining before, I am happy Kryten & Andy and the other admins are on that page display problem and other stuff with this new Forum Upgrade.

Something else.

I think you guys make a great job but I don't understand the handling of bans.

Matty got a 1-week-ban for this, posted in gaming tread about Xbox.
Quote from: 'HLG Poseidon' pid='484889' dateline='1315730425'

Quote from: 'MattyLadd' pid='484880' dateline='1315726199'

XBOX itself isn't worth it bitch.

Nice one u fan boy asshole.

This guy got only a warning with that (thread about popular  things you don't like):
Quote from: 'Elliot1911' pid='488811' dateline='1316150181'

Gays

Extremists

Mexicans

Religion

Anti-gun laws

Tonberrychef (she's not popular at all, just hate the shit out of her)

Gay santa^ just for you ass hole

Justin Beiber

And:

Quote from: 'Elliot1911' pid='488822' dateline='1316151027'

^gays are weird little shits, and mexicans hope over into my country and then act like they own me

I think that are strange relations.
Maybe Matty and Poseidon a warning or a 1-day-ban and
Elliot  at least a 2-weeks or even perma-ban.

How do you handle this? Everyone makes mistakes but you should be fair. Am I weird or how does other members see that?

Thanks.

1.) Please unlock the RDS thread in  MP.

I'm very disappointed in the poor decision making shown by part of the forum staff & I'm going to say it publiclly.  Its as it relates to this thread: http://www.reddead.net/forums/thread-rds--24966

There was no naming / shaming, in fact no specific forum user or GT mentioned in the thread anywhere aside from OldBill's running nipple joke.

People relating stories of RDS misdeeds had been named at the point I began reading.  I called it as I saw it.  And now looking back it at i see almost a full page of edited posts, all from when I first viewed this topic while I was at work from my phone.

2.) Unban Notoriouz immediately

It is an absolute embarassment that we ban someone for 30 days for posting a U Mad? internet meme.  Especially in a thread on that topic.  His group, if they have something constructive to say, has every right to say it.  He needs to be unbanned immediately.

Notoriouz's banning was based on his warning level, not by any personal feeling of mine.  At the time his warning level was at 60% so a month was the next step.  You say you want to hear what they have to say yet you clearly saw what they (he) wanted to say and what they usually always say, mostly something attempting to get a angry reaction.  So there ya go there's their reaction, the rest have fucked up enough on this forum to get banned in some attempt to always have the final word over those they abuse.

3.) This is a serious topic that is a huge component of RDR multiplayer.  It hijacks about 15 - 30 threads / month depending on the month.  There needs to be a venue for the topic of RDS to be discussed.  None of the discussion broke any forum rule: there was no flaming, none of it was inappropriate, and actually none of it was factually innacurate either.  Like it or not the topic of RDS needs a place to be discussed, and a quick review of how many bans & locked threads have resulted due to this topic will show that its better to have that stuff contained to one place.  I believe, but what do I know I haven't spent much time here, that we started the whole Forum Games section, then later the whole Politics Section, then later ... well you get my drift - for the exact same reason.

you really think the RDS issue hasn't been talked about enough?  You all seem to agree their cheating assholes so why the need for more?  Why you simply cannot stop talking about them is beyond me.  Its been almost a year people, move on, enjoy the game however you can

Quote
I am immensely disappointed and I expect these 2 decisions reviewed and reversed -  as they are plainly idiotic.  And being a mod doesn't make you right when you make idiotic decisions.  That's the reason I'm still on this forum, and would later go on to finish 2nd for Most Respected Member, after Toke perma-banned me a year ago.  There is a legitimate discussion that needs to take place and was kept within the forum rules.
What can I say Valjean, at the time of your perma ban you were spamming me with PMs angry over a temp ban that you had recieved for verbally attacking someone who wanted to boost golden guns.  Then you ban evaded PMd me angry again then begged your case before a admin and earned a perma ban as in accordance with forum rules you were new at the time so the admin gave you the benefit of the doubt.  I even apologized to you later and made that sig your wearing now as a peace offering.

As far as keeping it withing forum rules, like I said people were in fact naming out specific RDS members  who had wronged them which you in the opening post said you did want.  I saw names and while typically I might have kept the thread open on any other topic I know, from experience here that RDS threads crash and burn, even the ones where the OP wants no flaming, it always devolves with or without mod involvement.  So sorry if I didn't want history to repeat itself once again.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

@Labelle-Matty's ban was based on his warning level.  Trust me when I say I don't go around imposing 1 week bans for offenses unless their warning level designates it the next step.  Elliot was warned, not banned because he had not said anything overly racist and as I related in the second to last paragraph above I decided to show leniency because he was new and from his posting habits perhaps not used to forum behavior and/or forum rules.

Just thought I'd point this out, there are several Moderators and Admins that have gone inactive and haven't been on for a while, would these not be moved to the Retired Moderators with the others and switched back when they become active again or do they have to request that themselves? :)

Yes. His warning level was increased because of it, and his abuse since has then landed him another warning level boost that has made his ban a permaban.

The reason his initial ban was supposed to be so long was that it was not a first offence. Warnings pile up over time so repeat offenders have longer bans for the same offences as first timers.

Alright. I'm reporting spam. And watching Mods, one in general, get on and not take care of it. Why bother reporting if this clutter is going to remain? Seriously, if you're a Mod/Admin and you sign on, please take care of the spam, even more so if it's reported for your convenience.

I just took care of the clutter and I'm even supposed to be retired. All reported posts, when serious of course, will eventually be dealt with. Sometimes a mod can be logged on with the idea that it's for a brief while and simply not have enough time to run through every report. Or you may be called away for something and still be logged on.

Anyway, thx for reporting.

I seem to be forgetting to log out if I am not actually actively browsing the forums.

My bad.

Don't stop reporting simply because one mod isn't able to or doesn't handle them while they're on. There may be more than one reason why they're not actively stopping spam - and those reasons probably aren't out of pure neglect.

As for me, of which I'm sure this was addressed to, The forum automatically loads up on my computer sometimes, even when I only open firefox to check on something for family members or friends online. If there's more than a handful of reports I'll handle them but more often than not I'm not really in a good spot to do that.

CRDEDIT TO ADAMm.

I think you all do a great job. Even when I disagree with the way you've handled something, feel like you're ignoring something, or reprimand me for being human (fallible) you all help make this forum waaaay more enjoyable than many of the other forums I've been to. :2thumbsup:

I get on and don't handle reports sometimes because I'm on my iPhone and it's excruciatingly slow....

When the important issues are all dealt with, is there any chance of the "post count" titles being changed to something rdr themed? Like greenhorn, cowboy, gunslinger, legend.
Rather than newbie, full member, hero member, etc...

I'm open to suggestions. That sort of thing is pretty easy to adjust.

If it is true that a member was "put on time out" for a tasteless joke which was made some time ago
and that member is not even present at the time on the forum, I believe that moderation has gotten
way out of hand on this board.

Taste is a matter of opinion and there were no posted forum rules broken.
I understand that using a forum is a privilege not a right, but you might want to understand
why a lot of us don't visit this site as much any more.

For the record I feel it was in bad taste also, but would have been dealt with by the users peers.
Anyway just expressing my opinion.

I believe he's on about Mickey and Big GMG stupid joke.

This Mickey guy needs help, and Banning him for that isn't at all OTT. The general forum poplace doesn't need to be associated with members of the mental asylum. Mickey shouldn't be allowed back, without bail.

I think he's an A-hole (nicest word I could use). Mickey, you're sick in the head. I hope you get the help you need.

Now you are mental health experts too. lmfao
Sorry but no forum rules were broken, it is not about whether you think someone is an asshole or not.
Anyway this is where I will be attacked for having a different opinion.
Been a member in good standing for a long time and have a lot of mutual friends with you guys, but it won't matter.
I have said my piece no need for drama.

Mad Men= Mental health expert!

Maybe not, but what about the rule of being a decent human being? That sure got broke, that's the rule of life. No need to write that down. There's certain lines you shouldn't cross, certain jokes you know you shouldn't tell. Idiots with no filter will spill across any and all lines. No, i'm not attacking you, norr will I. No need to get on the defensive here buddy. I'm merely expressing my opinon classes with you, and agrees with the 'Moderation' in this certain case.

Two people can have a discussion and not turn into Drama.
