Policy regarding spoilers.
« on: May 14, 2010, 01:17:09 pm »
Hey all.

With the release of Red Dead Redemption just around the corner -- and with some folks getting their hands on early copies already -- we're starting to see an influx of spoiler-heavy content on the forums.

We're taking a couple of steps to keep things in order.

1. The Spoilers Forum
To keep everything in one place, we've created a new Spoilers Forum dedicated to holding any and all leaked content.

This forum is password protected. By entering the password "spoilers" and accessing the forum, you waive any right to complain about spoilers ruining your gameplay experience. In other words, enter at your own risk.

There is no "graduated level" of spoilers. You either want to see spoilers or you don't. We don't have the manpower to stop every user from including a spoiler in their thread titles or descriptions, and it's unreasonable to suggest otherwise.

So, again, we will not be held responsible if you venture into the spoilers forum and don't like what you see. If you're worried about the storyline being ruined for you, stay the hell out of the spoilers forum.

2. The Spoiler Tags
If you're posting something spoiler-related in a topic that is otherwise spoiler free (such as a general discussion regarding map locations, etc.), make sure you use the spoiler tags:

Code: [Select]

Anything hidden within those tags will require a user to click and open the content. Example:

Spoiler for Hiden:
Hidden text here.

More improvements to the spoiler section will come in time.

---

Keep in mind: we're a relatively small forum with a small group of staff members, so we won't be able to catch everything 100% of the time.

If you see a spoiler topic outside of the spoiler forum, report it.

Look for this little button:

And we'll try to take care of the rest.

Thank you for your patience and understanding with all of this. It's a busy time for the forum and we're trying our best to stay on top of everything. Cut us some slack and we'll appreciate it. :)

Cheers,

Andy

Thanks Andy, nothing worse than knowing spoilers, however minor, before you play the game. I made that mistake with TBOGT and I don't plan on making the same mistake twice. :(

Since R*'s new style of gameplay with IV, story is actually as important as gameplay. Unfortunately, I read the start of the IGN article and obviously won't say what I, sadly, discovered, as minor as it was. I want to live Marston's story myself, not through some punk who didn't use spoiler tags!

Thanks, again. :2thumbsup:

Ijust went in there to check how active it is. didn't think it will be added to the view new posts.
no big deal if you can't but it would be nice if you can

Go back into the forum, and in the top right hand corner is a link to "Clear stored forum password". Click that and then it should not appear when view new posts.

Just as a reminder: Trolls will get banned, your IP address will be recorded and stored. And if you have shared memberships with any of our partner sites (read: GTAFroums), we'll take the appropriate action on those sites as well.

Just sayin'.

Ooops I guess that being a gang subforum mod allowed me to see the latest trashed topic title... :(

I hope it's not visible for everyone. I saw it in the forum index not inside the section.
Maybe deleting some topics would be better than just trashing them.
Thankfully I'm not so upset about knowing the end... I think I knew it already after all, but a lot of people could have the game spoiled for that.

So what exactly constitutes a spoiler? Are we just talking about the story? Would X breed of horse can be found at X part of the map be a spoiler. I just want to be clear before I get flamed or a topic closed.

Here's a good example of how picky people can be about spoilers and a bit of a nostalgia bomb too

My cousin and I were playing Zelda Ocarina of Time.
If you haven't played the and you're worried lol
Spoiler for Hiden:

Me: Did you get the hover boots yet?

My cousin: NO! I didn't know there were hover boots! Why did you ruin it?

Me: RUIN IT? They're in the instruction book!

My cousin: SO? I HAVEN'T READ IT YET (He was quite a long way into the game at that point)

I disagree. Somebody posted treasure locations in a topic not about treasure locations and to me, that was a spoiler because I want to discover the treasure for myself.

You can usually work out whether something should be spoilered or not be the content of the thread.

If somebody has made another thread about the game's ending, you don't need to spoiler, for example, the first mission with the Marshal where you... but if somebody is asking when they get the lasso, you should spoiler alot more, because they haven't got very far into the game.

When you use spoiler tags is mostly common sense - if you use your brain, everybody is happy!

Noticed that before. Can't these adbots come up with original ideas anymore? What ever happened to good old fashioned "Increase your P3n!s size TODAY!" emails?

All joking aside, we are still getting far too many adbots despite all of the barriers we are using.

Andy is on top of it.  And everyone needs to learn how to use the spoiler tags.  I don't care because I know the story, but above all, we don't want to ruin a part of the story for people who dont eh?
